What Makes Health Innovations Unique?

Dear friends,
At the University of Texas at Austin and the Innovating for Health (i4Health) Institute, I have the privilege of collaborating with stellar academics and exemplary students paving new roads to solve tomorrow’s healthcare challenges. Among my closest colleagues is Dr. Nishi Viswanathan, Co-Creator of i4Health and Head of Commercialization & Business Development at Innovation Lab, a health technology company that partners with member-owner health systems to develop and launch medical device and digital health products.

No stranger to the work behind innovation, Nishi serves as an advisor to multiple medtech and healthtech startups as well as a venture fund. She also teaches health innovation and entrepreneurship at UT Austin. Her career has spanned many job functions along the product life cycle including ideation, design, venture creation, product development, regulatory strategy, launch, business development and marketing.

As we work together to equip students with the knowledge and hands-on experience required to innovate processes and products alike, Nishi displays a keen understanding of what makes health innovation different from other tech solutions. In the video featured above, she boils the complicated process into three factors:
Regulatory agencies and the associated hurdles
Reimbursement from diverse insurers
Complex decision-making process that includes multiple stakeholders each with their own unique needs
As you likely already know, the world of health innovation is rapidly-evolving and ever changing. We hope this helps you look at innovating for health through a new lens, and continue working toward advancements for the benefit of all.

I invite you to explore the news and resources below, and thank you for your ongoing support of our work!
