A Time for Change

Happy New Year!

As 2025 begins, I joyfully extend a toast of health, prosperity and growth in all your pursuits! I am optimistic about the year ahead and look forward to growing and learning alongside you.

I am especially excited to kick 2025 off on a high note by sharing my inclusion in Austin WomanÂmagazine’s Change Makers List as a Talent Transformer. In its second year, the Change Makers List highlights women who are elevating Austin’s social impact and business community. Talent Transformers is one of 12 categories featured in the 2025 Change Makers List.

When I joined the University of Texas in 2008, I instantly became enamored with the degree and depth of education offered to our students. However, I quickly observed opportunities for increased interdisciplinary collaboration and career development. Since then, my goal has been to present novel approaches through course work and mentorship that promote development of health technologies, facilitate bioscience startups, and cultivate interdisciplinary technology and workforce readiness.

I am truly honored to be included in this remarkable group of female leaders. At Innovating for Health (i4Health), we employ a unique approach to the innovation process, allowing participants to immerse themselves in hands-on projects. This dynamic thinking model brings educational tools to the forefront of academia and industry, empowering learners at every career stage to positively impact health care globally.

I believe this type of critical thinking is necessary to meet the emerging demands of Industry 4.0. Just as workplaces are constantly evolving, it is vital that educators and institutions adapt to meet the growing needs of students and workforce learners. This type of forward-thinking preparation will help ensure new discoveries, new technologies and a talent pool that can take on any task.

For now, I thank you for your ongoing support and invite you to learn more about our work at i4Health. I look forward to hearing from you and collaborating in the year ahead.

Wishing you and yours a safe, healthy and Happy New Year!

– Janet C. Walkow, Ph.D.
